Currently at home we are Kelly, Dave and Katie.
Kelly works both off the farm, to support our farming habit, and on the farm when she is at home. She is the brains of the outfit, but she also can't be held responsible for our silliness whenever she isn't here to keep us in check.
Dave is the stay at home dad whose bright idea it was to try to homeschool a couple of unruly children while learning to lose money farming. Somehow, things keep improving in spite of him.
Katie is our youngest daughter whose interests are widespread from Ancient Greece to handweaving, and almost everything in between. When she is not stealing Dad's tools, she can be found carrying a chicken or a lamb - often right across the living room. (Get that out of here before Mom finds out!).
Several grown children were not consulted and thus cannot be held responsible for errors or omissions.
Come see us anyhow.
is a small family farm Perched on a hill between the Allegheny and Clarion Rivers. We raise Pastured Poultry and Eggs, Grass Fed and Finished Lamb, Seasonal Fruits and Vegetables as well as dairy goats and semi-feral children (the goats and children are generally not for sale). Although the farm was settled in the 1870s, it hadn't been farmed in decades. Our family moved here in 2015, and began restoring the woods, fields and pastures.
The farm's name, Belmont, was chosen in honor of the Belmont Estate of Judge Richard Peters. Judge Peters was an American Founding Father and a member of the Continental Congress in the early days of our country. Our little town, St. Petersburg, in Clarion County, northwestern Pennsylvania was likewise named for this early American jurist, and Judge Peters was an early owner of the land we are on.
We raise birds chosen for slower growth and fantastic flavor. Mostly Freedom Rangers, Sasso and Kosher King. Our birds are sourced right here in Pennsylvania. These active birds spend most of their days scratching and foraging our pasture, and dust bathing in the sunshine. They are fed only Non-GMO grains, and all the healthy treats and grass they can eat. As a result, they produce a meat that is more flavorful, tender and succulent. Birds raised this way are said to have higher levels of the good Omega-3 fats and lower levels of unhealthy saturated fats. Remember when chicken tasted just like... chicken? Our family believes these are the tastiest birds you'll find.
come from a contented but mismatched flock of spoiled rotten hens. Since she was in Kindergarten, they have been spoiled by our daughter Katie. These hens are given more attention than any factory battery hens
